When you think of joining a weight loss program, you might be attracted to the advertisement stating losing weight in a fast way. This sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? You can lose your weight without dieting, without exercising, and just as simple as one two three. In fact, losing 10 lbs in 10 days is possible to achieve if you really understand the weight loss concept and you don’t mind to exchange it with your health.
We know that 3,500 calories equals to 1 lb (or 7,700 calories for 1 kg). And you and I also know that it takes time to gain weight. If you expect to lose excessive weight in any weight loss program in just few days or few weeks time, then let me tell you what you should do to get that results.
Just take the marathon runners as example. An average-size marathon runner burns about 3,500 calories during marathon, which equals to 1 lb. If you want to lose 10 lbs, that means you were to run a marathon, 42.2km (or 26.2 miles) for consecutive 10 days, then you might lose 10 lbs in this case without other effort made on your weight loss program. Of course, you need to take huge risk that your feet, lower back, knees and most everything will be injured before you could finish the running.
If you never exercise before, then I have another recommendation for you – restrictive dieting. Have you been come across with 7-day diet or 3-day diet recipe? Some of my friends tried that and they lost 5 lbs just in 3 days without joining any other weight loss program. Don’t you think it suit you? You are probably losing 10 lbs after 2 rounds of the 3-day diet program, right? I wish you do not think in that way. What happened to my friends is they gained their 5 lbs back in the fifth day.
Let me explain to you why this happens. Normally most “quick fix” diets will give direct affect on your lean muscle tissue and water weight. Lean muscle tissues are our body’s most active tissues and it burns about 16 times calories more than body fats. In a healthy weight loss program, we know that the most important thing is to preserve and build our lean muscle tissues and we do not wish to lose them in any condition. Anyhow, when you are on diet, your body will think you are under starving, start slower your metabolism by attacking your muscle, the most active tissue so that the body will burn fewer calories each day and stay alive longer. The impact is whenever you cease this type of weight loss program or diet and eat back what you used to, your weight will bounce back quickly as you have lower metabolism now.
Besides loss of lean muscle tissues, restrictive dieting will cause loss of water in the body. This is especially applied to a high-protein and low carbohydrates diets. When you do not take carbohydrates, your body will react by releasing water for the supply of carbohydrates. Secondly, restrictive dieting will reduce your body sodium content and contribute to the bloat. When you drink lots of water which restrictive diet normally urge you to do, your body will release the reserves of water. All these cause you loss of water and thus decrease your body weight.
That is why when my friends ceased the weight loss program or diet, they gained back their weight just in one or two days time. When they lost 5 lbs, they are probably lost 4 lbs of water weight and 1 lbs of body fat. The moment they eat back what they used to, the water weight will come back and your body weight will increase back.
Some other diet recommends you eat food that high in water content and drink lots of water. Of course you will lose about few pounds of water bloat. Besides, you will also lose few pounds of waste from your colon as you are mainly eating fruits and vegetables. Anyhow, your gain will gain back as you eat back what you used to. And these are definitely not you wish to have, right?
In a healthy weight loss program, what you should focus is the long term results and not losing pounds in just few days or weeks. What you want is losing weight and keeping it off forever in any weight loss program. The correct way is losing weight and changing your body composition: Decrease in body fat and increase in lean muscle tissues. And all these need time to see the optimal results. That is why you need to have right weight loss concept before joining any weight loss program, perform right exercise as well as take care of your food and nutrition in your daily lives.
