Do you have obese children in your family? Generally, children are not considered obese until the weight is at least 10% higher than what is recommended for the height and body type. Besides, they are considered obese when their body weight has more than 25% fat in boys and 32% in girls.
According to The International Obesity Task Force (IOTF), it is estimated that 22 million of the world’s children under 5 years of age are obese children. The analysis reveals that overweight and obesity affects 1 in 10 children worldwide, but the rate is double in Europe and three times as great across the entire Americans. In fact, obese children have higher risk of developing serious health issues in later life.

The number of overweight or obese children has doubled and the number of overweight adolescents has trebled since year 1980 in United States. The prevalence of obese American children aged 6 to 11 years has more doubled since 1960s. In American youths aged between 12 to 17, obesity prevalence has increased dramatically from 5% to 13% in boys, and from 5% to 9% in girls during 1966 to 1970 and 1988 to 1991 respectively.
