What is Gallstones

Is overweight related to gallstones forming?  Let’s have a look.  Gallstones are small, pebble-like substances that develop in the gallbladder.  Gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped sac located below your liver in the right upper abdomen.  When the liquid, named bile stored in the gallbladder contains too much cholesterol, bile salts or bilirubin (a waste product), it can be harden into pieces of stone-like material or gallstones.  Bile is made in the liver, then stored in the gallbladder until the body needs it to help digesting fats.

In fact, cholesterol is the primary ingredient in most gallstones.  Cholesterol stones account for about 80 percent of gallstones while the other pigment stones are small, dark stones made of bilirubin.
